Therapy for men

Therapy for men in The Woodlands and online across Texas

A lot of men don't call a therapist until something forces it: a blowup, a partner who's had enough, a job that's grinding them down. However you got here, you're not too late and you're not too much.

The question men Google first

"Why am I so angry all the time?"

Anger is often what sadness, fear or exhaustion looks like on a man. It's the feeling we're allowed to show, so it does a lot of heavy lifting.

In therapy we slow it down. What sets it off? What's underneath it? The goal isn't to never get angry. It's to stop being run by it.

What we can work on

You don't need to check every box.

  • Anger, irritability and a short fuse
  • Feeling numb, flat or "off," and not knowing why
  • Stress, burnout, and career changes or losses
  • Tension or distance in your relationship
  • "Who am I?" after a big change
  • Becoming a dad, or a changing role at home
  • Questions about faith, or leaving a religion

Most of these start with a transition. More on life transitions →

For dads

New, stay-at-home, and running on empty

Everyone asks how the baby is doing. Almost nobody asks how the dad is doing. I work with brand-new dads who feel lost, stay-at-home dads whose role looks nothing like their own father's, and fathers who are burned out.

You can be grateful for your family and still be struggling. Both can be true.

Common questions

Men ask me this a lot

Do I need to know what's wrong before I reach out?

No. "Something's off and I can't name it" is a completely normal place to start. Figuring it out is part of the work.

I've never done therapy. What happens first?

We start with a free 15-minute call. You tell me a little about what's going on, ask me whatever you want, and we decide together whether to book a first session.

Do you take insurance?

I'm a private-pay therapist, and I provide superbills on request so you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Mentaya can help with that process.

Is online therapy as good as in person?

For many men it works well, and it's easier to fit into a busy week. We can talk about what makes the most sense for you.

What if I don't like talking about feelings?

Most of the men I work with don't, at first. We go at your pace.

You don't have to have it figured out to call.
